Planets and Facilities

Building, Expanding, and Defending the Warped Universe

Last updated 3 months ago

Building new planets and facilities lies at the heart of the Warped Universe's metagame, serving as the driving force that pushes the Warped Universe forward. Each season, players must collaborate to expand the solar system by constructing planets that house critical facilities. These facilities offer opportunities to uncover new technologies to build new equipment, improve skills or attributes, reduce specific resource costs, and further develop the Warped Universe, from which all players can benefit.

The foundation of progress in Warped Universe is Residuum, collected through missions and used to build planets and facilities. Instead of being pooled universally, Residuum is allocated based on the missions players choose. For example, one mission might focus on constructing a research facility to unlock new equipment, while another could aim to gather Residuum for building an entirely new planet. This means that each mission players choose carry meaningful implications across the solar system, creating real agency as their decisions have an immediate and lasting impact on the evolution of the Warped Universe.

However, the Warped Universe remains in a delicate balance, as these creations are not invincible. The Void, ever-present and relentless, seeks to undo progress by targeting and destroying facilities, and if given the chance, whole planets may return to nothingness. If these structures are not properly defended, the technologies, perks, and content they provide risk being erased from existence, undoing hard-earned advancements.

This dynamic fosters genuine player agency, where decisions, mission selection, and collective efforts directly influence the Warped Universe's trajectory. Success and failure become tangible, creating an evolving environment that constantly reacts to players’ actions, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse.
